Information Technology-Department

Andaman & Nicobar Administration started its activity in the field of Information Technology in an organized manner from April 2000. The Department of information Technology facilitates all the departments to implement their IT initiatives and provides a platform for resources sharing.

Despite geographic isolation, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration has made significant achievements in the field of e-Governance in terms of providing of connectivity to different islands through VSATs with the help of ISRO. This connectivity provides support for e-Governance, Telemedicine, Distant Education, Disaster management etc.

A large number of Govt to Citizen (G2C), Govt to Govt. (G2G), Govt. to Business (G2B) and Govt to Employee (G2E) services are being provided by the various Departments under UT.

Under G2C Services, the Administration has initiated projects like, DC-Saral through Interactive Voice Response System, Ship Ticket Advance Reservation System (STARS), Employment Card Registration System, Electricity Billing etc. 

The Ship Ticket Advance Reservation System (STARS) was awarded second(Silver Medal) by the Ministry of Information Technology, Govt of India for "Outstanding Performance in Citizen Centric Service Delivery for year 2009-10" in the recently concluded National  e-Governance Meet held during February, 2010 at Jaipur.

The A&N Administration has also started projects like Project Monitoring Information System(PROMISE), Dweep Bhoomi (Land Records), Development Communication Network and COMPACT (Comprehensive Accounts) under G2G Services. Other projects like Tenders on Web,IntraAnd Portal – An Intranet of A & N Administration, Electoral Roll Photo Identity Card System,Online Birth & Death Registration System,Planned Family Scheme Beneficiaries Registration System etc. also contributes to providing e-services between G2B,G2E, G2G and G2C.
